Last night I dreamed I was abducted by aliens. I made fun of them because they said “Silicone Valley” instead of “Silicon Valley” and their spaceship was running off an old PC 286.
PS–For the record, I don’t think Wayne Sutton is an alien. But I’m thinking his mispronunciation got stuck between my nerves.

The New and Improved Beaver Lodge 1504 website
May 3rd, 2009 · No Comments
This weekend’s activities included the re-launch of the Beaver Lodge Local 1504 website, so now Kaferine de Nerve and Orange Sabrina and Mr. Dependable will all be able to blog and otherwise update the site. Like Crone Report, the beaver lodge site is built in wordpress. I did a quickie theme customization; the Kubrick theme [...]

Net Neutrality Priorities
January 28th, 2009 · 1 Comment
Cox Communications, the third-largest U.S. cable company, stepped on to the battleground of the “Net Neutrality” issue Tuesday, saying it will be trying out a new way to keep its subscribers’ Internet traffic from jamming up.
Starting on Feb. 9 in parts of Kansas and Arkansas, Cox will give priority to Internet traffic it judges to [...]

We have internet access at home via Time Warner Roadrunner. Since cable internet access time can vary depending on the current load, I wanted to find out two things: what is the maximum Mbps of our service (the package we have only lists “high speed internet” which doesn’t jive with any of the verbiage of [...]

Hope you like it.

This is just a post to remind myself yes, I do have a blog, and I should post on it once in a blue moon. Been uber-focused on learning how to create templates in Joomla lately, with my own site and a couple of pro bono sites as fodder. And if you have no idea [...]

You know you’re a nerd when…

…you shut down the MacbookPro after spending 7 hours on a Saturday learning how to design templates for an open source content management system, and to relax, you move to the other end of the sofa, turn on your G3 clamshell laptop and post on your blog.

Earning my pocket protector, yet again
March 26th, 2008 · No Comments
After much angst, hair-pulling, reinstalling, and perusing forums, I successfully installed current versions of apache, php, mysql and joomla on my localhost.
Now I’m going to go have a lovely glass of wine at the Nasher Museum, attend a panel about contemporary art, and try to remember that I’m a creative type, not a sys admin.

What a way to spend a weekend
March 9th, 2008 · No Comments
I started out with the intention of setting up so I could work onĀ a Wordpress blog locally, and ending up ratholing into attempting to set up a PHP/MySQL testing server on Dreamweaver for a site I maintain for a non-profit org. I’ve successfully installed MAMP, and finally figured out how to download and install [...]
