The dogwoods and tulips are starting to droop already, and I heard the first rumbles of thunder in a storm last week. The green-and-golds are blooming in the pine-scented shadows at Umstead Park. I’ve been cleaning out the garage, and my bedroom closet.
Yup, it’s springtime. Guess I oughta dust off this old blog, too.
I resort to that same old refrain: I’ve been busy. This is not the first time I’ve defied the economic doldrums: in the recession of the early 90s, my income doubled. After a bit of a slowdown over the winter, 2009 is shaping up to be my best year yet. I’ve finally succeeded in becoming an early bird, up before 6am most days and by 7:30 even on the weekends. I usually knock off work by the time Barry turns on Jeopardy at 7pm. With a possible break for a workout, I’m working 9-12 hours a day. Not all of them billable, alas, but also working on some joint ventures that could bear fruit further down the road. And a lot of the business I’m getting now is a direct result of all those unbillable hours I spent in 2008, learning drupal and wordpress and chairing the board of the Independent Communicators Alliance.
It’s like watching the tulips bloom: the effort to bury those bulbs in the fall are blossoming now.
