Tomorrow morning, Barry and I leave for a bit of an adventure. We’re driving up to Manassas, VA, where we’ll be staying with a first cousin that I’ve never met. On Sunday morning, I’ll be meeting more of my Virginia relatives, the descendants of my father’s sister, who left New York with her second husband long before I was born. I’m very excited to connect with the Virginia relatives, who until this year were nearly a complete unknown to me.

On Monday, we’ll connect with a friend from my California days, back living with her family in DC. We’ve kept in touch all these years, and I’m very excited to finally see her again in person.

And then on Tuesday, we’ll be taking the Virginia Rail Express into D.C. for the inauguration. We didn’t win our congressman’s lottery for tickets, but if we’re lucky we’ll get a spot on the parade route. If not, we’ll haning out on the National Mall with a couple million of our closest friends and celebrate this moment in history.
