We’re down to one pfefferneuse and a handful of springerle in the cookie tin, and the last of the foil-wrapped chocolates have been dumped into the candy dish. The tree’s gotta come down this weekend, along with the Russian dolls (the next-to-smallest having disappeared in a time lost to memory), the Christmas stockings (the “Joy” stocking currently in Honduras, fate TBD), and the silver reindeer candle holder. Why hasn’t the poinsettia died yet, or at least wilted? I certainly haven’t watered the damn thing. We had dirty rice made with the leftover duck stock and omelettes with duck meat, too. The last of the beef summer sausage (why do you always get summer sausage in the winter?) was last night’s late night snack; I’ve been nipping off the last of the lumpfish (caviar sounds so pretentious) with crackers and cream cheese in the afternoons.
Today’s my day to brave the mall to cash in a very generous gift certificate while the sales are still on. We have two more parties on our dance card this weekend, and I may even go to them.

Awesome eating at your place, it sounds like!
Regarding the lost little Russian piece — maybe you have a spare raisin you can drop in there?
I’m glad you’ve got a full dance card. I’ve also had a full dance card, and while I am very grateful for all the invitations, I also knew that the only sane thing was to sit a few out.
Regarding the absent “Joy” stocking, I am wondering if your mantle reads “Tidings of Comfort and” or “to the World”. Or maybe, given your family’s eclectic nature, “Division” or “Luck Club” Or even “eaux Noel”
