Yesterday was my mother’s 88th birthday. We took advantage of a lovely day to take a drive up to Person County, where we had a picnic and tasted some wine at the Rock of Ages winery. They have a couple of drinkable wines (and a few way-too-sweet wines), but mostly it’s a good excuse for a drive to look at the fall foliage and enjoy the sound of the wind rustling through the trees.
Later that evening, we had dinner at Four Square. It was the first time any of us went there. It was also the first time I had collard greens that didn’t make me want to gag. They could use a few more desserts without nuts, though (I’m allergic). We ordered the one dessert that didn’t have nuts, a white chocolate and raspberry stuffed beignet. It came with a side sauce of chocolate—and nuts. Nuts!!
Here’s a picture of Mom, enjoying her afternoon out. Happy birthday!

Thanks for sharing. I was searching for family information when I stumbled on your post. Nice break in my research

I hear you regarding collard greens. It wasn’t until I started to cook them like I cook spinach that I started to really like them. Boiled to a mushy gray just doesn’t work for me
