Congratulations to Jon Carroll of the San Francisco Chronicle, who has been selected as the 2009 Ernie Pyle Lifetime Achievement Award recipient by the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. I’ve been reading Jon daily since his column first caught my eye some time in the 80s with his musings along the lines of “What if the L.M. Boyd column were written by Albert Camus.”
Life is meaningless, experts say.
Now that I no longer live in the delivery area of the Chronicle, I continue to read Carroll online every day. I’ve been starting my mornings with coffee and Carroll for 20-odd years now, and I see no reason to stop.
