Roving pack of obnoxious creatures

June 15th, 2008 · 4 Comments

This is one of the common blights on our street:

chihuahuas

As far as wild packs of dogs go, four chihuahuas is not as scary as, say, the pit bulls that used to get loose on a regular basis from another house on the block. Nonetheless, these little yappers are not shy about running up and growling at you on the street:

And when they came into my backyard, chased our cat out of the yard, across the street and into the woods, you can be damn sure I grabbed the nearest stout stick and went after them. They disappeared into the woods, so I went and banged on the dog owner’s door (nobody home!) to tell them to retrieve their little rats.

Barry called animal control. He may as well have burned incense and chanted for all the good it does. We’ve complained to animal control before about these dogs being loose, and to the police about their yapping (and to other departments about other, unrelated issues with the same neighbor). Durham County Animal Control has been completely ineffectual in dealing with any chronic problems with dogs or dog-owning neighbors in my seven years in Durham.

    Again, I’m thinking headcheese…

Would be such a shame if the little rodent fuckers just “disappeared.” I’m just sayin.’

    *shrug* (whistle)

Apparently one of them became road cheese yesterday anyway. Too bad it never had the chance to live with caring, responsible dog owners.

Wow… I was about to say, if their owners actually gave a crud about those pups, they’d not be in the predestined situation to become a flattened mess (another blight for your neighborhood)… but it appears from Claire that it happened anyhow.

Well, one sacrificed, and maybe their lame owners will wise up now… Maybe…

the two remaining dogs (a third was impounded by AC after complaints from another neighbor) have still been seen occasionally on the block. AC wants more photos if they get loose again.

My main concern is with the 5th dog that lives in the same house. He’s much larger and appears to be much more aggressive. So far, he hasn’t gotten out. But these folks have had several larger dogs, including one who was nicknamed “ghost chow” who have spent a lot of time wandering the streets of the ‘hood. We have several toddlers on the block. If one of them were mauled by this dog, i’m not sure what actions i would take.
