WUNC is currently in begathon mode. I don’t listen much–I only listen to radio in the car, have a short commute, and walk or work from home occasionally–but that’s not why I’m not going to give them any money.
Here I am in downtown Durham, and I’m looking out the window, and I can see the roof of their studio from my studio. But who would know that they’re in Durham? Their ID always says “from the American Tobacco Campus.”
When they change their ID to say “from the American Tobacco Campus, in downtown Durham,” then I’ll think about dropping them a buck (And thank you, Terry Graden, for acknowledging Durham on The People’s Pharmacy).
Their anagramatic competition, WNCU, proudly says that they are in Durham (I especially like the way Grady Tate says it—not Derm, not Doo-rm, but DUH-rm).
You’re not in Chapel Hill anymore, Dorothy. Admit it. And welcome to the neighborhood.

Grady Tate should come crash the “Carl-a-bration” at ATC. You can get two tickets to it, for a pledge of just $120. (Pledge $1000, and have an “intimate” meeting with Cokie Roberts!!!)
I’ve wondered if the background noise of phones ringing and general bustling is just playing in a loop, or if those are the real sounds from the telethon.
I actually listen to nothing else other than WUNC. I’m just holding out for a better trip-for-two giveaway.

Thanks for raising my awareness of this, btw. I have been cringing every time they say “…from the historical American Tobacco Campus…” without mentioning “in Durham.” I’m mailing my sweatshirt back!!

We’ve told them that when one of the gifts is a wake up call from Eric Hodge we will donate. They haven’t bitten yet…
