Well, afternoon, actually.
Spent quite a few hours in the Wilmington airport today, but gathered together my 5 folks and were back at the house by 3:30pm. Barry cooked up a huge meal, partially in anticipation of other travelers who have yet to arrive. It won’t go to waste–we have a few people coming over in [...]

Well, obviously things are getting just a leeetle bit hectic around here. If you consider it hectic when your days activities include:
-swim and walk on the beach
-manicure and pedicure
-trip to the bank, plus two to grocery stores
-cooking
-a bubble bath in the jacuzzi
…and setting up an online gallery (which doesn’t have any pictures in it. Yet).
Today’s [...]

Countdown: 4 (a day late)

Got so distracted by Our Big Day in Wilmington that I forgot last night’s countdown! Did a lot of driving about the town in the afternoon, and bought so many flowers we were a little worried about fitting everything in the car. Had a nice dinner at a restaurant near the waterfront called Circa 1922, [...]

Another lovely day in Paradise. Swimming in the morning, a walk to the general store for ice cream in the early afternoon, and kayaking on the intracoastal water in the late afternoon. I called the rental agency on the off chance that they had an unrented property on one of the canals, and lo and [...]

Had our first real beach day today–swimming, walking, shelling, sunbathing. Did a few event-related odds and ends here and there, but it was mostly one of those days when you just sort of wander from one low-pressure activity to the next with no particular aim or focus.
Completely unlike my normal days, in other words.
Current forecast [...]

Surf report

The water’s fine.
The temp is cool on first touch, but you can get acclimated in no time–and for the folks coming in from the north or the chilly Pacific, it will seem absolutely balmy. The surf is gentle, not great for body surfing but good for swimming, and you don’t have to worry that you’ll [...]

I can’t believe I’ve been at the beach for over 24 hours and haven’t been in the water yet. In fact, we didn’t even make it over to the sand today (although we’ve been in the hot tub twice). We ended up running out to the towns of Supply and Shallotte to do a variety [...]

Let-down headache
September 23rd, 2007 · 2 Comments
Everybody who gets migraines has a slightly different set of triggers and symptoms. One of the patterns that I follow is what’s called the “let-down headache.” I tend to get a headache after the stress has passed, rather than during, or in anticipation of, a stressor. For myself, deadline pressure is the killer: grief, emotional [...]

After a busy morning of packing, and several hours of driving, we made it to the beach house around 2pm. It’s a beautiful house–not on the beach proper, but one row back, but you can see the ocean from the 3rd floor. There’s an elevator for the Moms, and a hot tub out back. 5 [...]

White wine chosen

The white wine for the wedding: Viognier from RagApple Lassie.
RagApple Lassie was one of the wineries we stopped at earlier this month. Beautiful, big space, nice wine-tasting room. Short tour included something I’d never seen in all my wine tours in Napa and Sonoma: vats of freshly crushed grapes. Made me want to take my [...]
